Stress can be crippling. Our fast-paced lifestyle can drive us into a frenzy. Personal disappointments and failed expectations, broken family relationships and job related stresses can be just enough to take us over the edge. Oh, for a little peace in my life, right?! We all desire it, but it just seems so hard to grab hold of sometimes – and keep it. And then the crazy things we can try in order to bring lasting inner peace. Alcohol? Drugs? Medication? Sex? Money? Isolation… do they work? Did it last? From personal experience, I would venture to say that it didn’t. Why? Lasting peace can only come from one place… the one who created it in the first place… God Himself. “We have peace with God through Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1). So, without Jesus, there can be no lasting peace.
Jesus said in John 14:27, “ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.”
He personally invites us to come to Him for it – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:25)
God also knows that for many of us, we struggle coming to him for help because we don’t feel worthy, good enough or we are just afraid that we’ve done too many bad things for God to forgive us, much less help us. I am thankful that God lets us know where he stands on that – Isaiah 27:4-5:
“I am not angry… let them come to me for shelter; let them make peace with me, yes, let them make peace with me.”
So, you see, God knows that we all struggle with the lack of inner peace. And He knows that we all desire it – we all need it. He also knew that there was only one way for us to have that peace and He sacrificed His Son Jesus so that we could have it –
But he (Jesus) was pierced for our sin, he was crushed for our wrongs; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5).
There is absolutely nothing in this life that can bring lasting peace except for a relationship with Jesus.
Would you like to finally have the inner peace you’ve always wanted? God offers that peace to you and I through a relationship with His son, Jesus Christ. God’s number one desire for us is to know and love His Son Jesus. God will not force us though. It will always be our choice. We can continue to try and find peace in our minds and hearts in other ways, but we’ll find that road will always be ‘washed out’. So, if you are ready for peace; ready, with sincerity, to engage a new way, Jesus is waiting. Pray this:
Jesus, I realize that without you, I will never have the peace inside that I desire. Jesus, I need you. I accept you as my Lord and Savior and I want the peace that only you can bring. Forgive me for my sin and help me to know and love you all the days of my life. Amen.
A simple prayer, spoken in sincerity is the start to a new life of peace! I would strongly encourage you to find a Jesus centered, bible believing church to connect with. They will help you to strengthen your relationship with Jesus and walk with you on your new spiritual journey.
Together, pursuing the peace of God,
